I have given all my care and love to her and I hope you guys feel that. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Now, in a new interview with Dax Shepard for Armchair expert podcast (via Deadline), Ferreira talked more about why she wanted to leave the show. She points out that her departure had a lot to do with the creative limitations she felt Kat had after two seasons, not realizing how worthwhile it would be to continue pursuing that character into season three. Ferreira also says that while she would still play Kat if he trance Her cast insisted, and she adds that she didn’t really want to continue playing the “fat best friend” character, and that also played a big part in her departure.

“I think there were places it could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show,” Ferreira said. “I don’t know if that would do her justice, and I think both parties knew I really wanted to not be a fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I guess they don’t either. I would play it as long as I was asked.”

But what about those rumors about friction with Ferreira’s trance production team? She told Shepard those reports were “ridiculous,” and reiterated that those rumors were unrelated to her reason for leaving the show. Ferrera notes how the decision was mutual, but even with her gone, she will still have a special place in her heart for Kat. However, Ferreira maintains that she simply felt she had nothing more to offer with the character.

The actress says: “It’s a character I’ve never seen on TV. It obviously hurts because I love Kat and she was so important to me and a lot of people, with all her good and bad. A character I’ve never seen on TV and I don’t know if we’ll get Something like that specific way, which was very edgy.”

She continued, “I just felt like, maybe it’s like I’m a little over my welcome period? So, for me, it felt good because I’m like, ‘Okay, you don’t have to worry about this and we both don’t worry too much about this,’ because it’s stressful.” … It was a really good thing.”
