After dipping his toe into directing horror with 1996 From dusk till dawnDirector Robert Rodriguez made the 1998 alien invasion thriller, the college. A cast of some of the most promising up-and-coming talents in Hollywood at the time, including Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, and Jordana Brewster, play students at Harrington High School who begin to notice how strange the teachers and principal act. They come to discover the faculty (Baby Neuwirth, Robert Patrick, Jon Stewart) infected with a strange parasite that controls their behaviour. The teachers at Harrington want to change their students’ minds, but not in the traditional sense until the students fight back. The College is a lesser-known film directed by Rodriguez, who is mostly known for action films like Desperado and popular family-friendly foods like Spy kids franchise.
8 Astronaut’s wife
Charlize Theron plays the titular wife opposite Johnny Depp in the 1999 suspense film, Astronaut’s wife. Depp appears as Spencer Armacost, a NASA astronaut, who suffers from losing contact with Earth after an explosion in space. Upon returning home, his wife Gillian notices that his behavior is not quite the same. When Jillian discovers she is pregnant with twins, fear and paranoia grip her. She fights to discover the truth about why the returned Spencer isn’t the Spencer she once knew.
The movie has shades of Rosemary’s Baby, and Theron gives a committed performance as a woman who knows deep down that something is wrong with her husband, despite everyone telling her otherwise. Depp is suitably charming and menacing in his role.
7 Simulated sound and motion
A cockroach-borne plague called Strickler’s disease is spreading in New York City, killing hundreds of the city’s children. Entomologist Dr. Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino) teams up with CDC Associate Director Dr. Peter Mann (Jeremy Northam) to create a new insect hybrid called Judas to kill disease-carrying insects and then die themselves. Years later, he finds that the Judas bugs have survived and evolved into something even more terrifying: six-foot-tall winged insects that taste human blood. in Simulated sound and motion, director Guillermo del Toro cranks up the tension throughout the film, with plenty of ambiguous shots obscuring who or what lies outside the frame. There’s plenty of blood and bugs, and an intense final action showdown that takes place in the tunnels of an abandoned subway station.

in 1997 remainsBrutal murders have taken place at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago as the museum prepares for a party celebrating a new exhibit. Detective Vincent D’Agosta (Tom Sizemore) is assigned to the case because the killings are similar to those on a freighter a few weeks earlier. Margo Greene (Penelope Ann Miller), a museum biologist, leads the story as she continues to solve the mystery of who or what the killer is.
The murders in both cases are the work of the Kothoga, an ancient creature that appears in nature as both feline and reptilian. Created by Academy Award-winning special effects designer Stan Winston, this monster is absolutely terrifying and the killing scenes are brutal.
5 classify
Starring Natasha Henstridge in her first film performance, classify is a 1995 sci-fi horror film about a strange, seductive humanoid hybrid named Seal who was created in Xavier Fitch’s (Ben Kingsley) lab after intercepting a strange signal. Sil grows rapidly and escapes from captivity. In hot pursuit of Ciel, a team of experts, played by Michael Madsen, Marg Helgenberger, and Forest Whitaker, are on a quest to stop her from achieving her goal: to mate with a humanoid by any means necessary and give birth to a new species that can end all of humanity.
This movie is full of action and violence, showing one of the craziest on-screen murders of the 90s. Sil’s alien figure was designed by H.R. Giger, famous for designing the villainous Xenomorphs in the Alien movie franchise.
4 virus
In the 1999 movie virus, Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Sutherland, and Stephen Baldwin play the crew of the Sea Star, a tugboat that has just lost its cargo due to a severe storm. They spoke aboard the Russian research vessel Volkov in the South Pacific. They board Volkov hoping to find something to make up for their losses, but instead find a powerful extraterrestrial evil that has taken over the ship. He travels through the energy sources on the ship and has also turned the crew into violent and murderous cyborgs. The film didn’t make much of an impact at the box office or critics upon its release, but it has achieved somewhat of a cult following in the years since its release.
3 Annoying behaviour

Director David Nutter worked on The X-Files Before working on this movie, he brings that suspenseful sci-fi feel to this flick about a mind-control experiment with frightening results.

A boat crew, led by Finnegan (Treat Williams), hires a team to take them somewhere out to sea. What they find there is the Argonautica, a luxury cruise ship attacked by creatures from the deep in this 1998 creature feature. The team of mercenaries intend to rob the ship and the passengers, but end up being slaughtered by tentacles slithering below the surface, waiting to strike.
Director Stephen Sommers delivers tense action scenes and injects the necessary doses of humor into the film. The creature, known as the Octalus, is truly hideous and uses its tentacles to feed the crew and passengers. This special effects movie achieved moderate box office success but, like the other entries on this list, has become a cult classic for some.

sphere, the underwater sci-fi thriller from director Barry Levinson, is based on the novel by Michael Crichton, who also wrote the source material for Jurassic Park and its sequel. In the movie, a giant spaceship is discovered at the bottom of the ocean and is believed to have been around for about 300 years. A team of scientists, played by Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Stone, and Liev Schreiber, are sent to an underwater habitat to live as they work to assess the craft and discover its origin. What they discover is something from another world: a huge golden orb that can manifest their greatest fears. In a series of harrowing encounters with jellyfish, an invisible giant squid, and sentient beings named Jerry who communicate through their computers, the team is forced to fight for their lives and their minds.
